More
Detail and Even Bigger Pieces |
|
David Winter by now was adding more and more
detail and experimenting all the time and during 1981 the true style of David
Winter Cottages was finally reached when he sculptured Stratford House.
It was also during this year that the first substantial order came from the
Chinacraft chain of stores. By now John Hine had become a limited company and
this was later extended into "The Studios and Workshops of John Hine Limited".
Also the trade name "David Winter Cottages" was created. At the end of the year
however, another milestone had also been reached when David sculpted The
Village, which is still regarded by many as his earliest
masterpiece.
In 1982 a further move into larger
premises was required this time to Hendon Road in Bordon. By this time the army
of painters had increased, all of which had been trained by Audrey. Also a
network of home painters had been developed. This allowed more flexibility in
the type of people who could be employed as painters. Housewives and part-time
workers could now work at their own pace and in familiar surroundings.
During the next three years David continued to sculpt a flood
of pieces which not only demonstrated the development of David's technique as a
sculptor but also the ability of the mouldmaking team to reproduce them in
Crystacal. The painters also had to keep up with all the fine detail and the
larger more intricate pieces. |
